Essayist and short story author, Dolen Perkins-Valdez will read from her debut novel Wench. The setting, based on a real place, is a popular resort in Ohio, where slaveholders bring their enslaved mistresses. The novel explores the relationships of the women to each other, their owner, their children, and the free world they enter. Publisher’s Weekly called Wench, “Heart-wrenching, intriguing, original and suspenseful.”
