The “acting white” thesis obscures some of the legitimate reasons for the achievement gap between black and white students, including the fact that many schools in the United States are openly hostile to black children. The current situations begs the simple question as to whether black children are pathological or made so by educational institutions that refuse to accommodate the different learning styles of diverse communities?
